Creating ray images on my computer started out as a hobby. After a time, as I became aware that my hobby was shared by hundreds of like-minded enthusiasts, I began to wonder if such a hobby was still worth pursuing that had become a fad.

In 1998 Rainbirds came in 61^st in a ray tracing contest! The theme was “Great Engineering Achievements”. You were disqualified, if you strayed off-theme.

Alienation

Verfremdungseffekt (‘distancing’, ‘alienation’ and ‘estrangement’ effect) applies to innocuous seeming absurdities on stage, like seeing a paper moon dangling down from the overhead rafters.

In its paginated form Berliner has are addenda. Jumping, should the reader so choose, to an addendum, alienates. I did mean for that to happen.
